Featured Image Too Large

Having just installed your plug-in, I’m having fun playing around with it. However, I have a problem with the featured image. First, I inserted a featured image from my media library. Instead of a thumbnail, I a small part of that image takes up the entire square.
What I’d really like, however, is an image from one of the homepages for the two sites I’ve created. I don’t know how to include that as a featured image.
I’ve searched the net, checked the links that were suggested, but I don’t quite understand what’s being said.

By the way, I tried 3 or 4 other portfolio plugins and have liked yours far more than the others.
