Hello. I am finding impossible to solve this. I try sharing my site through Whatsapp or Fb and the featured image appears black in Whatsapp and not at all in Fb. Don′t know what else to try.. I have tried different images with different sizes, deactivated every plugin except elementor, elementor header and ultimate member (basic for the site), I tried installing this plugin (Default featured image), and I also tried changing the theme (now I have basic wordpress 2020). Any help would be very welcomed. Thanks.

  • The “Featured Image” you set in the post editor is for WordPress to use as post thumbnail images on your own website only.

To get external websites (social media sites and messaging apps) to recognize and display this image, your site needs to generate something called Open Graph Meta Tags… basically, code in your site that specifically tells those external websites/apps what title, description, image, etc to display in those external sites/apps… rather than leaving them to “guess”.

WordPress doesn’t do this natively, so your website is currently NOT generating those codes. That’s why FB and co cannot see your featured image.

The easiest way to do this is to install and use an SEO plugin like Yoast SEO, SeoPress, RankMath SEO, All-in-One SEO, etc. These plugins will then take your already chosen Featured Image and generate the appropriate Open Graph code on your site.
