I can see the images on the individual post pages, no greyed out panels. Were you able to resolve this, or are you still seeing the greyed out panels?

No, they are still there when I look…I am using Chrome…..two grey panels either side of the top photo on the individual post page. Tried logging out of WordPress too and still the same…..

I haven’t changed any code on the standard 2014 theme.
    ANy ideas?

    Cheers, Guy

What you are seeing is the default background of the element that contains the featured image. That’s 1030px wide. You are uploading images less than this width. So, the theme is centering the image on the element and you see some of the background.

Simple answer, upload images greater than or equal to 1038px wide, WordPress will create its own smaller images for you.

OK, thanks very much Dave, where would I see the code for the fact that these need to be 1030px wide? Can I change this code?

    Cheers, Guy

Resolved by installing Fourteen Extended in the end and set featured images to stretch.
