Hi and thank you for your help –

I recently set my homepage as a static page and have a separate posts page for “recent blogposts.” I put a featured image on this posts page (using banner featured image layout) that will not display. I put featured images on all other pages on my website – using the banner featured image layout – that work just fine on those pages. Why can’t I get the featured image to work on the posts page? (It also won’t show the featured image if I use the default featured image layout option.)

Some more info…When I am editing the posts page and click “preview changes” it shows me the homepage, not the posts page that I am editing.

I use the Kale Theme, but I have a plugin that lets me use it the way it was before WordPress updated several years ago (if this makes sense).

    Thanks for your help!!

    Hi @mstrieb,

Thanks for a great question! Currently the posts page just displays the blog feed, it doesn’t include page-specific elements like content you may enter in the editor on that page or the featured image.

It’s an interesting thought though…if a feature like this existed, would you want it to also display the same content and featured image in addition to the blog feed on paginated pages? Or would this just be for the first page of results?

    Thank you for your reply.

It’s unfortunate that I cannot display a featured image on the posts page (it makes the format of that page different from every other page on my blog), and I find it odd that while I cannot, I am given the option when editing the posts page.

If this feature did exist, I would want it only on the main posts page (i.e., on the first page) because each of the blog posts themselves has their own featured image associated with the topic of that blog post. Maybe someday that can be worked in?

    Thanks again for your response.

    Thanks Max,

I can see how it might seem odd, interestingly though, it’s actually how most if not all of the popular themes work (Astra, OceanWP, etc.), as well as WordPress’s own default themes.

And I completely agree that it shouldn’t go on the blog posts since they have their own featured images. What I was actually trying to think through was whether this would also show up on subsequent (paginated) pages (i.e., /blog/page/2, /blog/page/3, etc.). Similar to the way “featured” posts work in some themes- some themes display them at the top of page 1, page 2, etc., while others only show them on page 1.

Thanks again for the helpful feedback- we really appreciate it!
