Featured image is not showing when shared via WhatsApp

The image requirements and recommendations for WhatsApp are different from that of Facebook or Twitter. Unfortunately, we were unable to find an official guideline for WhatsApp’s image requirements, but you can find some similar recommendations here: https://roei.stream/2018/11/18/ideal-open-graph-image-size-for-whatsapp-link-share/.

In the past, it was recommended that the image needed to be under 300kb in size and 256x256px but not larger than 400x400px. Does your featured image fit these recommendations?

We understand when you share a URL on WhatsApp it doesn’t show the featured image. We are happy to take a look! Let’s see what is going on.

While checking the page source of the given page: https://psychlike.com/ we noticed the required Open Graph og:image is missing. Can you confirm by uploading the featured image for your homepage from SEO > Search Appearance > General?

You may need to clear the cache to see the expected output.

My initial problem has been with the individual posts not showing the featured image when it is shared on WhatsApp, however, I just tried to share my homepage and noticed that it is no longer showing the Icon which was previously set up in my Customize theme settings. I’m not sure what has changed but now this is a new problem for me.

I have done what you have said and added the image under the SEO > Search Appearance > General (which I have never needed to do before), and this has not worked either. All I am seeing is a black box where previously there used to be the image of my icon (picture of a brain).

I have checked and I believe all of my images exceed 300kb in size and much larger px than what is stated.. Maybe this is the reason why it is not appearing on WhatsApp.
I will experiment with smaller sizes and see how I get on.

Thank you for coming back to me; I will have a look at the link shortly. I was wondering whether you could assist with the fact that my favicon no longer shows when I share the link to my website and now only displays a black box… I’m not sure what has changed as a few days ago when sharing my homepage link on WhatsApp it displayed the favicon as a preview.

Unfortunately, it’s really difficult to troubleshoot issues regarding the social sharing preview on WhatsApp when they don’t have a post inspector tool like Facebook’s Sharing Debugger Tool or don’t have any guidelines on what code they use for social sharing. You might want to reach out to them and ask them for more information on this so we might have an idea of which output they require for their social sharing preview requirements.

What we can control is that our plugin outputs the open graph tags, which should be used by most social media platforms. You mentioned that you already set an open graph image for the homepage.

Could you also check if you’ve set an appropriate logo under the SEO > Search Appearance > General Tab > Knowledge Graph & Schema.org (which will output the imageObject schema for the person or organization’s logo) and see if this helps?
