Featured Image for Blog Post Not Connected to Post in Alternating Layout

Hi there — I’m hoping you can help.

I want my home page to show my blog posts with the featured image alternating from right to left with each snippet. Unfortunately, when I click this option (Customize panel –> Blog Settings –> Blog Layout –> 1st option) the mobile version of my blog looks wonky.

What does wonky mean? The featured images for each blog post can appear before (or after) the post they are tied to. Some will appear before. Some will appear after the post. There does not appear to be a rhyme or reason behind if the featured image will appear before or after the post… however, it is consistent.
Example: The picture of Muse of Montreal post is always after the snippet. The picture for Learn New Skills is always before the snippet.
Additionally, the spacing between the post and the featured image can be large enough to make it look like the image isn’t tied to the post.

What I would like: To leverage the alternating layout for desktop viewing and the featured image to appear directly after the title and before the snippet. I would also be happy with the featured image appearing directly before the title and snippet. Ultimately, I want it to be consistent as the user is scrolling down and I want it to be clear that the featured image is tied to the post.
