Hi I am using a free version of Yoast SEO. Under the snippet section, I saw that the plugin is supposed to show a featured image for mobile search. So when I search my own website (see my sample link) on my mobile, it throws up a search result without the featured image. Only the text link was available.

May I know if I did something wrong? Why is the featured image for that page not shown on the mobile search result?

For all the rest of the links, is there a way to show featured image for desktop search results as well?

    Awaiting your help on this.

  • Hi @donnacyk,

    Thank you for reaching out.

Whether or not Google uses the image to show in their SERPS, unfortunately. There is no way of forcing images to be used in the search results.

Having said the above, we did check the URL you mentioned to see if Yoast is working as expected. We see that Yoast SEO is not outputting any Schema.org output. Are you running any other Schema plugin or did you disable the Yoast schema functionality?

    Hi @jeroenrotty
Thank you for prompt reply. I am hoping there would be a way to include images for Google search. I am also using another plugin “Schema & Structured Data for WP & AMP” for Google Rich Snippets mark up. Is there any conflict with Yoast SEO plugin?

    Hello @donnacyk

This image in the snippet preview (for mobile) was introduced in v12.4 of the Yoast SEO for WordPress plugin. You can learn more about it here — https://yoast.com/yoast-seo-12-4/

For some search results on mobile, Google will now show the main image next to it. In Yoast SEO 12.4, we automatically use your featured image to mimic the way Google does this now. We’ll use the first image in your content if you haven’t set a featured image. Remember, this only works in the mobile snippet preview.

You can set the first image or the featured image for your post, and this will give you a likelihood or chance for Google to output that particular image for mobile search results, but it’s not a guarantee that it will output as such.

There is indeed a possibility that there might be duplication or conflict of schema.org structured data if you are using multiple plugins. You can refer to the specific output of the Yoast SEO plugin here and compare with your current plugin to see if there isn’t any conflict — https://developer.yoast.com/features/schema/plugins/yoast-seo

You can test it in Google’s Structured Data Testing Tool — https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool

    Hi @donnacyk ,

We’re closing this thread because we haven’t heard back from you in a while. Should you have further questions, please open a new thread.

Google preview in Yoast SEO setting displaying the featured image of my post with the meta description. But in actual google search results, the featured image isn’t showing up.
I want to display my post’s featured image in the search results and on my home page as post thumbnails. But I don’t want to display the featured image on the top of my posts. So, I turned off the featured image feature on my theme settings(Fairy theme).
    What should I do?
    1. Do I need an extra plugging?
    2. How can I resolve this issue?
