Featured Content strangeness

After the 4.4.6 update the Featured Content widget began to act strangely. If you are using the post index (either numbers or dots) and the page is refreshed (either with the refresh button, or because the host window has been resized) the post index “doubles” (i.e. 1234 boxes become 12341234). This pattern will continue on subsequent refreshes or until the site is reloaded from scratch. Any ideas?
