    Hi,

I use various themes such as the great GeneratePress.

One reason I like this theme is that it adds selections in the post editor to have no sidebars and a full width.

This is great for front and landing pages.

Then if I add a WP core Cover block, it stretches 100% across the browser window, which is what I want. Say 1900 px wide.

The Cover block is a nice way to have a banner image and text at the top of the page.

Then, below this Cover block, I need blocks to respect the theme width. Eg this could be set at 1200 px.

Some block plugins respect this theme width – some block plugins have a setting to choose which width you want to use. Some block plugins by default respect the theme width. So if I add a block they are automatically or can be set to display at theme width.

When I try your Section block it does not seem to have a width setting and it will stretch across the full width of the screen. This means I can only use it for a Cover-like block.

I tried some other templates and they seem to behave the same way.

One work-around is to use a Column/Section block with one column in it and set the block to 1200 px width, with eg 50 px margins, and put all blocks inside this one col, one above the other.

But I cannot do that with your Section block since it does not seem to have a width setting. (Please let me know if I am not seeing it).

So I cannot use your plugin on full width pages. On normal pages with a sidebar I am sure the plugin is fine.

I would like to suggest that you have a setting per block for width, or have each block do it automatically, so that the block’s width is 100% of the theme, not page.

One block plugin actually has a setting for width called “Use theme width” which is very handy.

    Hey @wpfan1000,

It seems to be working fine for me: https://specified-gemsbok.jurassic.ninja/home/

I try to add a block with both settings and they’re working fine. Am I missing something?

Good that it is working for you ??

Can you explain what you mean by both settings?

I created a fresh page and used 2 instances of the block you are using in your screen capture.

The second block I set the width to 1200.

It still shows full width on the screen.

Can you confirm the settings you are using?

@wpfan1000 I understand what you mean. That max-width is the width of the content, not the section.

For that, you will have to add a section within a section, with the parent section having no background color with the maximum width. ??

    Hi,

Twice I have asked you what settings you were using and you have not answered.

I have tried really hard to make things work. Moreover, I was trying to help you make your plugin work better.

I have found other block plugins that work perfect for me.

At this time I cannot spend more time on issues on your plugin and I am abandoning trying to use it further….

    Hey,

@wpfan1000 Sorry for that, I figured out your issue so I skipped that question, as the settings that I was using wasn’t doing what you wanted to do, they were doing something absolutely different.

I have tried really hard to make things work. Moreover, I was trying to help you make your plugin work better.

Yes, you have helped us a lot. We really appreciate it.

I have found other block plugins that work perfect for me.

That’s perfectly fine. Hope the plugin achives what you want to do.

Thank you for trying Otter. We really appreciate your feedback. ??

as the settings that I was using wasn’t doing what you wanted to do, they were doing something absolutely different.

I am puzzled that you say that, because you sent me a screen capture that seems to show exactly what I wanted to do….That is why I was very interested in the settings that you used so I could reproduce it.

My closing remarks would be that you consider:

Enhancing the width setting – In the blocks I have tried there is only one setting, and there are no units to it.
Try to add units and functionality like %, px, em, etc.

I think it is critical to have a width setting that allows 100% theme width.

Try and make it work with GeneratePress – It is a very popular theme and it would expand your market.

I realize your plugin is a lot of work and development and is overall already very good.

Your plugin like the others is a work in progress and I am sure you will make it even better over time.

I will come back to it say in 6 months and see how it is going.

Wishing you further success in the mean time!

Honestly, speaking. I didn’t do anything. I just added the block and used the Full-Width option in one: https://pasteboard.co/J7K1YGpv.png – one with that setting & one without. That was it.

Also, thank you for your kind words. We really appreciate it.

    Thread Starter wpfan1000

    (@wpfan1000)

Thank you for letting me know you used the Full-Width option.

That DOES work for me ??

    So problem solved.

I was only looking at the width setting in the right hand block properties pane.

Part of why I did not see the full width setting is that I have a lot of trouble selecting the block, and then the top left menu bar will not appear with the full-width setting.

So I would suggest improvement on being able to select a block….but we discussed this already.

But another key point is that in GeneratePress one needs to set the page builder content container type to Default. I had it set to full width.

    Thanks for your support.

    Marking as Resolved.

Haha, that was simple but something I missed. ?? I’m glad it works for you. And yes, block selection needs to be better and it gets a little better in the newest version of Gutenberg but it’s still far from perfect. ??
