I love the login lockdown. Keeps the riff raff out. Unfortunately, I have one particular user who can never seem to remember their password. Despite the fact that I told them to only try so many times in a given time period AND the fact that I’ve told them about password managers, they continue to lock themselves out. The problem is that it locks out everyone in the entire building, as we share the same IP. I end up having to use my phone to connect over the mobile network to handle the unblock. That being said, I’d really love to just whitelist our IP.

Hi, I can see your dilemma. If you are using the Login Lockdown feature have you also enabled Allow Unlock Requests:?

The alternative to your current problem might be to use a Membership plugin if the other users are not administrators.

    Just my humble opinion.

    Kind regards

Yeah I could Allow Unlock Requests, but I fear what intrepid spammers might do with that. Not like it isn’t insurmountable, but I’m trying to limit unnecessary strain on the network.

We do have several admins and this trouble user is one of them, so I’m not sure the membership plugin would really fix our issue.

That being said, my request remains. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to put up with it… ?

    Thanks for the great plugin.

Thank you for sharing more information. I will submit your request to the plugin developers.

    Hi,
If you want to whitelist IPs, that probably means you’re confident that the IPs you are concerned about will not change. If that’s the case, have you considered using the “Login Whitelist” feature in the “Brute Force” section?
(Note: this will only work if you have an Apache-type server which uses an .htaccess file)

We don’t use .htaccess, so the Login Whitelist doesn’t work. Boo. Thanks for trying, though!

Ok. We have plans to expand the brute force whitelist feature so that it also uses PHP as as an alternative to .htaccess directives for those who can’t use .htaccess.

We will also seriously look at adding some kind of whitelisting for the login lockdown feature too. Will keep you posted.

I would like to encourage this request as well. We have multiple clients logging in and they continually forget their passwords. While I am fine with locking them out for these errors we ran into the situation where a client had the same IP range as the main office. We were all locked out…It would be great to be able to specify ip address/range that were exempt from the rules.

OR–I would be fine with being able to manually add/edit the htaccess (or other) to create a list which is exempt to the plugin lockout rules.

Hi, Any plans to add this any time soon?

Or is there a workaround this?
We have a client with a intranet site, build in WP, should also be accessible for employees (about 150 persons) at home or on any of there offices (about 25).

As we now run into problems at their head office, with 30+ employees plus the website manager. If anyone locks it, every one at the office is blocked including the person who could unblock them easily.
And I think we will be running into something similar soon as we are developing an internal website for a school at the moment. Most of the users will be using it from the same IP (the school) but should still be able to use it from home or other locations.

I find it hard to belief this isn’t a problem for more people.
