Feature request: Take a backup x time after a change (page, post, setting etc)
-
Hi UpdraftPlus
I use UP and love the simplicity but feature richness of a free plugin.
I have a few WP sites all using this incredible tool, but came to think of the following:“When do you want a backup to run?”
Answer: After a change! It doesn’t matter to run a backup each day, if there is no backup. On the other hand, it’s no sense of running a backup fortnightly or monthly, if you then risk 13 or 29 days until backup after a change on the site. I create a blog post maybe once a month and in the meantime no changes happen on the site (maybe except comments, but again, not busy site…)
Solution: Create a new backup interval/timeplan selection: X time after a change. Useful for not-that-volatile sites. Set it to 4 hours after last change, take a backup (maybe even just an incremental backup). Then all changes are backed up pretty fast, but you don’t have to run backups every day. Then you can run a fortnightly or monthly full backup and incremental after each change. The x time after a change is to make sure it doesn’t run backup while working on the site.
I don’t know. Maybe it’s just the incremental feature I need, which is not included in the free version. I just thought if the backup could be run not on a timely fashion but after a change, we could save backup storage… ??
