I can echo several of the other users in here complaining about upload speed.
On sites with many image sizes, uploading even a small image can take a long time, frustrating editors and causing them to re-upload the same image multiple times.

It’s completely understandable that compression takes time. But might I suggest that the plugin returns the first usable thumbnail image to the admin and then updates the remaining sizes in the background. This would let the editors feel like their file was uploaded, instead of making them wait till all the sizes have been generated.

As a side question – is there any option to schedule a nightly bulk optimization? If not in the admin, then programatically?
