Feature Request: Show production summary when using Theater Categories Widget

    I have just launched our new theatre web-site https://www.harboroughtheatre.com using your plugin and am really pleased with the way it works and have got some great feedback. One comment that I have received is could the Theater Categories widget optionally display a list featuring future productions (rather than a simple event list). This really only affects productions which have more than one event assigned.

    For example, could a Theater Category Widget generated event list shown below

    Production 1
    Tue 23rd Sep 2014

    Production 1
    Wed 23th Sep 2014

    Production 1
    Thu 24th Sep 2014

    Production 2
    Sat 4th Oct 2014

    Production 3
    Tue 7th Oct 2014

    Production 3
    Wed 8th Oct 2014

    show the same information formatted as shown below:

    Production 1
    Tue 23rd Sep 2014 to Thu 24th Sep 2014

    Production 2
    Sat 4th Oct 2014

    Production 3
    Tue 7th Oct 2014 to Wed 8th Oct 2014

    I would be interested to here what you think or receive any suggestions on how I could implement it myself.

    Hi Bob,

    This is what the ‘Theater Productions’ widget is meant for.

    If you look at you widget list, you see two widgets named ‘Theater Events’. This is a bug. One of them is supposed to be called ‘Theater Productions’. You can recognise the one you need by the description: ‘List of upcoming productions’.

    Thanks for replying and sorry for the delay in thanking you.

    I understand how both theatre events widgets work. In my previous post I was specifically referring to the theatre categories widget. When a category is selected via the widget, would it be possible to display a list of productions relating to the selected category instead of a list of events relating to the category. It is not a big thing but if a production has several events it tends to dominate the list of forthcoming productions for that category. It is not a big problem which is why I added it as a suggestion for a future enhancement.

    You can already achieve this with a little trick:

    1. Look for Position on page in the Theater settings.
    2. Choose manually, using [wpt_events][/wpt_events] shortcode.
    3. Edit the page that holds you event listing.
    4. Place [wpt_productions] in the content.
    5. Save the page and check it out.

    This may give some unexpected results with the Theater Calendar widget, but I’m not sure if this applies to your website.
