Feature Request Pinned links to WP sidebar
-
As someone who manages multiple WordPress sites, what never fails is the challenge in quickly locating the desired WordPress section via the sidebar links.
As each website is different, some sites will have themes with added features (portfolios for example) that are added to the sidebar. Likewise, plugins may have a mind of their own, surely at the behest of the plugin developer, where the sidebar shortcut could appear near the top or middle — though for the most part added plugin shortcuts are good at appearing at or near the bottom of the WordPress sidebar.
With this in mind, it generally takes a few extra seconds of scrolling to find the desired shortcut (Pages; Posts; Media), in part due to the homogeneity of the visual appearance of the shortcut links. I believe the icons being the same color and unremarkable design are a contributing factor.
The leads to the suggestion: can WordPress develop a method to “pin” desired shortcuts at or near the top so they can maintain a consistent position? Whether this could be done only with core WordPress sections (Pages; Media; Posts; etc) or for all compatible plugins as well is another question.
Perhaps there are already additional plugins to “resolve” such a request. However, I believe this would be a beneficial inclusion for a future core WordPress build.
