My suggested changes to the Exif display:

    – The photography (exif) display is a great idea, but the execution is not ideal. The data takes up more space than the photo, it’s huge. The photography should be the star.
    – Give me an option of what exif data to display. I only want camera, lens, shutter, fstop, ISO. Others may want different fields.
    – Give me the option to show/hide the title/caption. Not all of my photos have that info, I want to hide it for blog posts but maybe not on the gallery so it should be configurable.
    – If the exif field is blank, automatically hide it. Then you don’t get ugly N/A showing up.
    – Give me the choice to put it on the right (as you have it), or below the image. Even better, automatically based on orientation (landscape gets it below, portrait on the right).
    – Option to hide the Exif and associated details unless you hover over the bottom of the image. Have a visual cue to show that data is there that can be viewed. Again, make the photo the star but info available if the viewer wants to see this. Smugmug gallery does this quite well: https://portfolio2.photokaz.com/Landscape-Architecture/i-qLvcT5b/A

I’ll update the post if I think of more ideas ??

  • Hello Mike,

These points are all interesting, but even if one by one they look easy, it’s not really the case, for example if there is an option to hide title / caption, then we have to change the whole layout of the lightbox to adapt to just one line of infos ( for example putting it under the image ).

It’s just one example, we will do it for sure and we won’t close this topic, but just to say that it might take some time. For now, it’s kind of raw, we know, but you can always fall back to the “standard” lightbox which is .. well, standard but kind of clean imao ??

    Thomas,

I’m not expecting anything to be implemented tomorrow, or at all in fact. I’m just providing suggestions to improve the product in the future. My suggestions may not be what others want, or they may be available in other plugins. Regardless, the choice is yours (and Jordy’s).

I’m providing my input both as a photographer and as a long time developer of software and web applications. Just suggestions ??

    Hello Mike,

Oh sorry if I sounded frustrated by too many ideas haha, I was maybe a bit scared by the work it would be but you can be sure we really appreciate all these ideas with Jordy and we will certainly implement most of them, if not all of them actually ??

    Best regards,

No worries Thomas, I’m just hoping that the plugin works well and gives photographers what they are looking for.

Any update on when some of these requests might be implemented?

Sorry, I am very busy at the moment working on actually a big update of all the plugins at the same time. You will see why soon and I think you will like it.

Meanwhile, I think having a few options in the plugin for what kind of information to display would be nice. That is easily doable and I think we should add it.

For when the data is not available, I am not sure yet what we should do… and adding options depending on the gallery or where it’s shown, we probably need a bit more users and feedbacks for that, the idea is to get people interested in the fact it works nicely out of the box and easily and keep it light ?? To be honest, I am not a big fan of how Smugmug is displaying the information, which is below, in some kind of bar what displays more on hover, but it’s there mainly because there are so many functions in there. There is something to do here, but I am not sure about that one yet. What do you think Thomas?
