• Hi Arno, thanks for creating the great lightweight lightbox plugin.

I wish to have an additional option for the caption to be shown on the side of, instead of under, an image for desktop views. Side caption will be much easier to read in some cases.

For instance, the New York Times website has such a lightbox style for photo-heavy stories, as seen on https://www.nytimes.com/2019/11/22/world/asia/the-jungle-prince-of-delhi.html

I assume we might be able to implement this with custom CSS, but it’d be nice if we have this feature by default. Could you consider it?

The problem is, that it is not just done by having a custom CSS.

The “swipe” effect in Photoswipe is achieved by building a grid of images one next to each other with a margin around it which is then just shifted horizontally. When you want to have a caption area on the side of each image instead below of the images, you also need to adjust the way how the grid is created, so there is extra space next to each image and not just the image itself.

Yes, it can be done, but it is not just some simple CSS changes. I’ll put it on the list of things which people would like to have – but I can’t promise when this will be done.

As always – pull requests for this are welcome:

Thanks for your reply and considering that. I wasn’t aware this had to do with the whole grid structure. Hope more people will find this nice to be implemented from the wish list.
