I have a site with separate downloads, events, posts, pages, etc. which I would like to have served up separately when possible so I added each of those as indices within the Algolia Indexing settings. I also want Instant Search to be used as the site’s primary search.

Now, Autocomplete returns results from the different indices perfectly, but why does Instant Search then require searchable posts to be indexed as well. It seems like it’s doubling my site’s overall record count without any visible benefit.

I suppose my problem could be solved two different ways:

    1. Is there a reason I need to have searchable posts enabled for the Instant Search rather than being able to use the separate indices?
    2. If I just have searchable posts enabled, will autocomplete still be able to offer up type-based search results?

Thanks for the amazing plugin & service!

Hi there, very sorry about the delay.

For the instantsearch experience to work, you indeed need a single index with the different post types you want to search on.

The plugin requires you to have different indices for the different search experiences.

You could try to do a custom implementation, but what we offer by default is what we consider best.

Feel free to discuss this on our forum here: https://discourse.algolia.com/
