Feature request: Additional social media methods for earning entries

Hi,

that is something I am still thinking about how to do it correctly. I don’t want to make a way to get extra false entries since some could just follow you, get the entries and then unfollow you. Those social media do not have any webhook which could notify the system if someone unfollowed your page or profile.

I can make it only in one way probably – check that someone has followed you but this will have to be included in a future update.

I think having them unfollow later would be the worse of the two options. Having the ability to ask them to follow for extra entries is more important.

I enter sweepstakes online, and have installed your plugin on my site. I am looking to start my own giveaways in the next couple of weeks. Having the person unfollow later is not an issue for me. If the publisher has really good content, and I do, and the person entering the contest is truly interested in that content, they will stick around.

I tend to unfollow people on social media if they are not personable and are only selling selling selling and pushing. It’s up to the publisher to create good content to keep folks around.

I’ll still have to check how to be 100% sure they’ve followed and not only record the click on the link ??

I’m not entirely sure that is even possible.

The few contests I’ve entered where I needed to do extra tasks for extra entries, all gave the entries upon the click-through. I do not know which giveaway/sweepstakes plugin/software they were using.

I even noticed this on a giveaway that was entirely on facebook, where there were extra entries given for watching videos that were in the giveaway area. One only needed to click on the video and start it to get the extra entry.

I agree with @kkradel regarding good content that makes people stick around but I also agree with @ibenic that a click-through shouldn’t validate an entry. Last time I enter a giveaway it was one setup with https://gleam.io/
To gain the extra entries I actually had to approve their app in my social profiles. I’m assuming that’s their way of verifying if the follow really happened and if its still active during the contest.

@ebarcena, another way of verifying would be having an app-like approach for social profiles. That might be a good way to see and also, such events such as unsubscribe could maybe get it right. I’ll have to see it.

I know that it would be hard to find out who has subscribed or unsubscribed without having an app, but I do get what @kkradel is saying. Will see to at least make it record that someone has already followed on social media so another click/follow would not get recorded.

However, this scenario is pretty complex so it will take some time to build it.
