Feature Request

I think that something to add to a future version of WordPress is an option to make your blog offline. There are a few CMS’s out there that offer that option so the owner can perform maintenance or updates without their readers interfearing or making your site bricked until the new files are uploaded to the server. Just a suggestion that I think should be implemented soon.
