I know you like to listen to ideas, so here is another one I hope you consider. Feature – Folders & File Manager that will allow you to organise file for media, pages, post, products and more. some examples wicked-folders folders filebird It would be nice to have all the separate feature in a a single nice plugin, removing the need to have loads of plugins. This one looks to have been abandoned with a github media-organizer

Can wait to see what you manage to do with some of my suggestion.

@akgt thanks for keeping the suggestion coming. These media folder plugins constitute plugins I consider to be complex and requires a lot of coding work to mimic. So, if I were to implement a feature in that spectrum, I’d probably would do something simpler like Media Taxonomies, to keep ASE lightweight. Would something like that work well enough for you?

I think It would need to be something similar to the links I’ve sent, because it the simple ease of use, Media Taxonomies is not as easy and does not have that visual aspect, negating the reason to use it, also very few people use it comparison which would not be a great help, I’ve had a quick look at the plugins with Code Profiler and media-organizer and ?wicked-folders are both very light, they uses very little but you could check them out yourself, but folders and ?filebird?are both is a little heavy, each similar to your plugin.

@akgt thanks for checking out the code for the plugins you referenced. Well noted. I’ll have to take a deeper look then. By the way, if such media folder feature is included as part of a Pro (paid) version of ASE, would you still be interested?

I would consider the pro option depending on the Pro feature, Price (needs to be very reasonable and not a subscription)

I don’t really use pro versions of plugins much, because you have so many free options available. take for?example media-organizer?and ?wicked-folders, I get a pro plugin with these two free plugins.

adding wanted features like the ones suggested into one plugin will go a long way, and I would buy it, if the price and features are right.

But I would not like to see every new feature pushed to the paid option, this is a big No for me, this happens a lot with new plugins, create a plugin with a few useful feature gain some attention and then push on the paid option and abandon the free one.

@akgt noted. Thanks for your feedback. ASE’s free features, as you can see, is generous enough. Not all new features will be pushed to the Pro/paid version of course. Most probably those that requires going the extra miles, (more) original in nature, and are offerred elsewhere as paid upgrades.

As you probably know already, if only creating and maintaining free .org plugins can replace an author’s day job, that’d be ideal, but it’s just not the case yet, at least none that I know of. I do try to push ASE into that territory, and still have hope. As you can see in the changelog and sponsorship nag, with 250+ dev hours spent and at 6000+ active installs, ASE have 4 monthly sponsors and 28 one-time sponsors. It’s a great start, and I hope to see the numbers grow. I certainly hope you’re already among these 32 sponsors, but if you haven’t, please do kindly consider. ??

You are correct and you have done a great job so far.

A pro/paid options would need some major features, most probably those that requires going the extra miles, ?(more) original in nature, and are offered elsewhere as paid upgrades. Some good Polish and UI.

Take for example: Rankmath, Wordfence, Admin Columns, bit-integrations, FluentCRM etc, all free with paid options but the free options are not lacking much, polished, great UI, good support.

ASE Free does offer a few good free features in one place and you are great developer who is open to feedback and suggestion, care about the product and users, but its still a newish plugin and is growing. it could do with some feature, improvements and something to standout, which is why I myself as a user do try to help how I can.

ASE offer small parts of feature which other plugins have.

For example – Admin Columns, Unbloater have some of what ASE offer and a lot more, both are free.

I hope you understand, I’m just trying to help with the feedback.

A suggestion you could try is have a poll or something for what feature to add in the next minor or major update, for example you could add a few options to the poll see what people want, you could get a few more sponsors, every time you give users an option what to added. or something like that.

@akgt all great feedback, and I understand that you’re trying to help. ASE is not even one year old, so, yes, do sort of have to prove itself amongs the 70k+ plugins in .org, and more beyond.

As a general rule, ASE will never be a multi-purpose plugin where each feature is the equvalent of a separate, free plugin’s full feature set. That will just turn ASE into a frankenstein plugin, and I’m sure you already understand that.

So, thanks again, stay tuned, and please keep the feedback coming.

Thank you, I’m glad the feed back was helpful.

Yes, I understand ASE?will never be a multi-purpose plugin, but my point was if you offer the user a option to what to add next from a list of feature you have on you list of what you want to add and what you are considering features. This way you have a better idea what to add next and user feal they are contributing and getting a choice.

Yes, I understand. Polls/surveys is a good way to get feedback and gauge interest on which feature(s) to implement next.

I have thought about the option you suggested, with the dropdown option instead of the folders on the side, it could work well as the other option but you would still need a easy and simple way to organize things, like added image etc to the folder like the option I mentioned do.

@akgt noted. I’ll have to revisit this in time and take a deeper look, and decide then.

@akgt I’m revisiting ASE’s old(er) support threads to appreciate the feedback you’ve given in improving ASE with a sneak peak of, and discount code you can get for the soon-to-be-released Pro version of ASE. A simple, media categories module with drag-and-drop categorization is implemented in ASE Pro.

If you’re interested, please contact me at https://bowo.io so I can send you the link to the website and the discount code.
