Since a recent update (one before last), if I try to add a background colour to a feature block the width of the block changes to wider than the width of the page.

Running stackable theme, latest version on latest version of WordPress.

Hi, in v2, there are now 2 backgrounds: the “normal”/column background and the block background.

Turning on the block background makes the block go fullwidth, while the former one doesn’t.

Are you using the column background when that happens?

    Hi Benjamin,

I am using the block background, as I want a different colour background to the feature block than the rest of the page.

    A couple of questions:

    1) Where do I find settings for “column background”?

I am using the “Feature” stackable block within a post entry. I can click on “document” but there are no options for column colours or styles there. Within the block settings, under style, I just have one option for colour, which causes this problem.

    2) There is an error with fullwidth setting in the feature block as it causes the text and image to go out of the bounds of the page. This is within a normal post on the stackable theme, thus making the background colour of the feature block unusable.

I’ve found a workaround by placing the feature block within a container block, but it seems like this is an unnecessary extra step? Or is this how it’s intended to work?

    Thanks,

    Simon

I’d also add that posts I’d made before this change look much better than new post using this workaround.

I see, for the “Feature” block you can see the Background settings if you select a different layout. Try selecting the “Basic” layout. I think that’s what you’re looking for ??

As for the container block, yes you can definitely do that especially if you need the block to have a definite box.

However, if your text is going out of bounds on the page, then that’s not the intended behavior. Would you be able to provide a sample page from your site, so we can see it happening?

I’ve tried playing with the layout options, doesn’t help.

    Here’s an example page.
    https://www.founderfit.es/es/2019/12/04/cual-es-la-diferencia-entre-correr-y-el-entrenamiento-hiit/

The top version is without the container, this displays fine on mobile, but in desktop you lose half the text (in Windows 10 in both firefox and chrome).

The lower version is within the container, looks “ok” on desktop, but terrible on mobile (but at least legible).

If you switch the language to English, you’ll see the original post which I published before the update and displays fine.

    Any update on this?

I’ve left the example issue on a live page for you to see, but obviously I’d rather not leave it like that indefinitely!

Can you confirm once you’ve seen the issue so I can remove?

    Thanks,

    Hey Simon,

The page you gave makes things clearer. The thing with the full-width option and the “block background” setting is that they force the block to become full-width. In your case, since the page template has a sidebar, it clips the sides of the full-width block.

I would like to recommend the following in order to get the look you want on the first block:
    – turn off the “block background” on your Feature block,
    – switch the layout (in the General tab in the inspector) to “Basic”
    – then in the Style tab, add the gray background color to the container

    Hope this helps!

    Hey Benjamin,

    Yes that did the trick!

    Thanks for your help.
