    alright i moved my site from wordpress.com to wordpress.com 1 1/2 years ago…

    Never closed or redirected wordpress.com

I NEED to have the old blog redirected to the new .org blog but the permalink structure isn’t the same.

The .com site has the .com standard permalinks which include dates and my new site just has %%post%%

I can’t do the redirect option at .com because the permalinks aren’t the same and I’ll just get error pages…

    Any workaround on this?

    Thanks

  • Don’t use profanity in your title. Your likely to get banned from www.remarpro.com

Go to https://yoast.com/change-wordpress-permalink-structure/ and use rewrite generator and add it to .htaccess

Thank you and I’ll look at these…

Also sorry bout the profanity. Frustration. No reason.

I can’t see a way to edit post or I would take it out.

    alright…

I did the redirect as specified.

The main URL redirects but the posts do not..

    Any ideas?

One use of foul language won’t get you banned ?? We’re not that strict ?? Repeat behavior is another thing.

    Anywho.

I NEED to have the old blog redirected to the new .org blog but the permalink structure isn’t the same.

You have to pay for redirection from .com to your self hosted instance. Assuming you’ve done that, then you just need a pretty simple .htaccess rule ??

    RewriteRule ^([0-9]{4})/([0-9]{2})/([0-9]{2})/(.*)$ https://domain.com/$4 [L,R=301]

That will redirect only requests for a post that starts with YYYY/MM/DD – it checks for the numbers too ??

Put that above the #Begin WordPress line on your htaccess.

Probably stupid…but do i need to change the “domain.com” to my domains name?

Also i have a htaccess file in my main directory, my publichtml folder, and my blog folder?

Do i just change the main directory one?

    my wordpress.com site is https://www.mynotetakingnerd.wordpress.com

    it now redirets to https://www.mynotetakingnerd.com

However none of my posts due even after i put the rediret rule in the htaccess file…

    this is an example post:

    https://mynotetakingnerd.com/2012/05/21/32-places-to-find-ideas-for-a-blog-post/

And i get an error page and i know that post works..

The only other thing i did was due the name changes to the nameservers at godaddy which i was told to do..

    anything?

    Thanks

    UPDATE: Mika…You Rock!!

    Thank you.

It worked however one last question.

some are not redirecting because the slugs are different inside of wordpress.com versus my new site for some reason ..

It seems like about 70% are redirectig correctly and 30% are going to our 404 page.

Should we go in and match the slugs up on the .com site to be the same as the new site?

Also the tags and categories arent’ the same so should we just delte them inside of wordpress.com (our old site) so they don’t show up and go to nothing?

    Thanks for any help here
