Favicons appear in address bar but not in favourites

  • On my site (https://billyben.com/) I have managed to get the favicon to appear in the address bar but for some reason it won’t appear on the saved bookmark.

    I’ve never come across this problem before. Anyone got any help?

  • Noticed the same problem with my site. Don’t have a clue.

    I usually have to restart the browser a couple of times before it works. And I’m not sure it works in all browsers either. There’s something specific you have to do to get it to work in IE6 for instance, so maybe that’s part of it? As far as mac browsers or other off-brands, I don’t know.

    Ah, this was the deal for IE6 (a LONG time ago (2003….):

    favicons will not show in IE unless the URL is bookmarked

    And I couldn’t say if that’s still the case. The only thing I worry about with IE6 is that the page displays reasonably “right” and remains usable – I don’t have time to worry about favicons for the world’s most broken browser.

    I just finished validating my website and I noticed that the favicon bookmark workes properly now. Still don’t have a clue, but there is something.
