The website in questions appears without a favicon in mobile Google Search results. The favicon was displaying without a problem until we installed PWA for WP & AMP.

Instead every search result displays a globe icon. I’ve seen this icon displayed for other websites in search results, that appear to have the same problem.

    I have attached a print-screen for more info: https://ibb.co/3yQWcZK

Important: Favicon displays in web browsers, as well as on mobile Home Screen when the website is added as a shortcut to the home screen. It’s just the mobile Google Search results that seem affected.

Would appreciate any help as I couldn’t find any solution anywhere.

We are not removing anything. Can you please tell me are you still facing the same issue?

Yes, the issue is still there. I am not claiming that you’re removing anything. Perhaps PWA ads some icon meta tags, to some that already are present from the site theme or other plugins and it causes confusion to Google.

As mentioned in the initial post, this problem is widespread as I notice that many websites display the default globe favicon in mobile Google Search results.

In my case the same favicon was displayed ever since Google introduced the feature for mobile Search Results. I noticed it was swapped with the default one only after I installed PWA for WP plugin.

Could Google handle websites with PWA support differently? I checked in Google Search Console and the favicon is displayed there. It’s also available in browsers, as well as on iPhone or Android as icon when I add the website to the Home Screen.

Can you please tell me the favicon is coming on your source or not?

I think that it’s available here. Correct?

    Update:
A new PWA for WP update was just issued in my wp-admin panel and I updated to Version 1.7.17.1.
I notice this in the update log:
Bug Fixed : Site Icon from Customizer is duplicating the icon meta tag resulting in different icon on homescreen #442

    Could this be the fix?
I just check the mobile Google search and my favicon is back. Not sure if the update had an impact. I checked about 30 minutes after updating.

I’m having the same problem, and curious to know if this was resolved for you.
