yeah cuz everyone wants a blank/nothing showing, right?
that’s not a very valid reason to not put it in there.
it’s not like it’s going to majorly inconvenience people.
and for the few who really do have a problem with it…they could simply change it.

Personally, I tend to use site-wide favicons. Makes life much easier when I have a couple of client sites open in different tabs.

Far more valid, IMNSHO, than your dislike of a blank because you have chosen not to use a site-wide favicon.

it’s not like it’s going to majorly inconvenience people.

As I’ve explained, it would seriously inconvenience me, for one. from what I’ve read above, I may not be the only one.

and for the few who really do have a problem with it…they could simply change it.

Well… yes. I’m not sure why this might be an issue for anyone.

You DO get how that works both ways right? ?? The few who don’t like it as it is TODAY can simply change it ??

for the few who really do have a problem with it…they could simply change it.

It seems to me like that’s already the solution.

yeah….I just didn’t like the rationality of the refute
if changes were only made contingent on no one having a problem with the change….not much would ever get changed

Changes are made for myriad reasons. People have a legitimate problem (i.e. ‘This is broken for IIS users!’) is a good reason.

The problem comes with people being unable to tell the difference between wants and needs. What you have is a classic WANT that will change WP (improve? questionably) for FEW people. What we have now is the ability to CHANGE based on WANTS, which is the hallmark of a well structured system.

So no, I don’t think this should be a CORE change. To expound on what Esmi said, there’s not enough of a NEED for this WANT to put it in CORE.

There are ways to work around it. Rev’s code can be used as a plugin (put it in mu-plugins for your clients if you want, and it’ll always be on for them too!) so there’s your fix ?? I just put the favicon.ico in the www folder and it works fine for me on all my sites, no code needed, thank you apache.
