Since about last week, after an update I believe, Updraft has been flagging a fatal error while it tries to backup to our Google Drive.

The key strand I see is:
PHP Fatal error (TypeError) has occurred during backup uploads to the googledrive. Error Message: Argument 1 passed to Google_IO_Stream::__construct() must be an instance of Google_Client, instance of UDP_Google_Client given, called in /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/Google/Client.php on line 626 (Code: 0, line 45 in /var/www/html/wp-content/plugins/updraftplus/includes/Google/IO/Stream.php)

I’ve found no luck googling a solution and have even reinstalled Updraft with no solution so far.

I found a few similar issues from a few years ago, and nothing similar.
Has anyone else come across this? Have you found a way to solve it?

    Hi,

Can you try to manually install the plugin?
First, remove ‘updraftplus’ folder via FTP from the ‘wp-content/plugins/’ directory.

Then manually upload the plugin via FTP. Download a fresh copy of the plugin from our install guide here. Then, unzip and upload to ‘wp-content/plugins’ so it becomes ‘wp-content/plugins/updraftplus’.

After uploading the files, you can then activate from your WordPress dashboard.

    Does that work for you?

    Hi Bryle

Thank you for getting back to me.
The issue with the method you are describing is that we do not have an FTP or a CC Panel installed on our website. We are using a Google Console and manage everything via the WordPress side as it is the simplest format for us.

Is there another method that you could suggest instead?

    Hi Meghan,

Can you just try re-installing the plugin using the standard method?
You will not lose your backups in the process.

    Thanks,

    Hi Bryle

Thank you for getting back to me.
I am afraid I did try that already, and I saw no change.

    Hi David

HUGE thank you for that! I was too scared to let WordPress update without a backup going through.
I just updated and tested, and everything worked smoothly.
