• hello

I have upgraded to 2.8.2 manually (the automatic upgrade kept having the insufficient permissions error) and am using the Fusion theme 3.04.

Now the tag cloud on my blog shows this error…
Fatal error: Call to undefined function esc_url() in /home/vaughand/public_html/blog/wp-includes/category-template.php on line 662

When I am in my dashboard I get this error under the comments section…
Fatal error: Call to undefined function esc_url() in /home/vaughand/public_html/blog/wp-includes/comment-template.php on line 197

It seems like there is a problem somewhere in the wp-includes directory which is stopping the plugins and widgets working.

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

    Vaughan

  • Deactivate your plugins
    Re-upload the wp-includes folder
    Confirm site is working ok
Reactivate plugins one by one while checking both blog and admin area for any errors.
No errors? continue till all plugins are activated.

In any event, always backup, deactivate plugins before ugrading or doing any maintenance of your site. It’s also good practice to keep a copy of your current wp-config.php and any customised themes on your desktop.

    Good luck

thanks for that – I actually can’t deactivate my plugins – when i go there it just takes me through to my blog instead of the plugins section.

    can i deactivate them manually?

Yes you can by using your ftp. Just navigate to the wp-content >> plugins and rename the plugins. This will cause them to diactivate and allow you access.

Automatic update to 2.8.2 results in following error:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 2355395 bytes) in /home/forumnet/public_html/verduyckt/wp-includes/http.php on line 1331

Could this be for the same reason? (i.e. not deactivating plugins before updating?)
My blog keeps working perfect when I go back to my Dashboard however.

Right – I have tried to recover everything from the back up that i took a few days ago. some things are starting to come back to life now that I have reinstalled.

I still get the following on the Tag Cloud though
Fatal error: Call to undefined function esc_attr__() in /home/vaughand/public_html/blog/wp-admin/includes/template.php on line 3666

I’m beginning to wonder if the 666 means something!!

Do a reinstall. In 2.8, you can go to Tools > Upgrade, and run the upgrade again. Make sure to rename the plugins directory BEFORE running the upgrade. When you are done, you activate your plugins one by one, but if you come across a problem due to one of the plugins, you’ll want to find a different plugin that is more current to replace it, or just get rid of that problematic plugin.
