    Hi,

I updated my Yoast SEO from the dashboard but I was locked out of my site and a Fatal Error occured. Below are the details –

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Yoast SEO.

When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 5.8
    Current theme: Newspaper (version 11.2)
Current plugin: Yoast SEO (version 17.0)
    PHP version 7.3.29

    Error Details
    =============
An error of type E_ERROR was caused in line 12 of the file /home/customer/www/storizen.com/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/src/integrations/admin/cron-integration.php. Error message: cannot implement - it is not an interface

I deleted the plugin from my hosting account and I was able to access the dashboard again. I am not installing it again because I fear that it might happen again. Can you please help me with this error so I can install it again? I am a big fan of Yoast!

    Please help.

    Thanks,

    Saurabh

    Hello Saurabh,

We are sorry updating to Yoast SEO 17.0 resulted in a fatal error but we are glad you were able to regain access to your WordPress backend.

First, please check that you meet the plugin requirements mentioned at https://yoast.com/help/plugin-requirements/.

We look forward to hearing from you.

    Hi Maybellyne,

Thanks for your reply. The plugin requirements are perfectly met. Should I update the PHP version to v7.4? The current PHP version is 7.3.29.

    Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks for the feedback, Saurabh. Though we usually recommend the PHP version 7.3 or above, it’s not certain this has anything to do with the fatal error.

However, you may upgrade and see if the issue persists. Do let’s know how it goes!

So what could be the possible reason for this? I would like to reinstall it but I am not sure whether the issue will arise again or not. It becomes scary losing access to your own site!

@saurabhchawla2345 If you have confirmed both WordPress, Yoast SEO, and all of your site’s other plugins and themes are up to date and the problem is still occurring, we would next recommend performing a conflict check. A plugin or theme conflict can sometimes cause functionality problems, errors, or unexpected behavior from the plugin. If you are unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we have a step by step guide on how to check for conflicts available here: How to check for plugin conflicts.

Test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the?Health Check & Troubleshooting?plugin. This plugin allows you to run a conflict check?without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Can you please confirm you have performed a complete conflict check by disabling other plugins, and resetting the theme to a default such as TwentyTwentyOne and let us know the results?

If you do not feel comfortable to do this yourself or if this does not solve your issue, our Yoast SEO Premium plugin comes with one year of (technical) support.
