Fatal Error when importing CSV with images

CSV import works fine until a zip file with images is added.
The error message appears momentarily after I hit “Start Import” and states the following:
“A fatal error occurred during the import. If connection wasn’t lost during the import, please make sure that you have enough free disk space and memory available to PHP. Check your error logs for details.”
Test import completes as normal without any error messages. I have also experimented with different file sizes (the latest ZIP archive I tried to upload was only 66 kB) with no positive results.
