I went to a site I run and found the following error sitewide:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '[' in /wp-content/plugins/sucuri-scanner/src/settings-posthack.php on line 167

I deleted Sucuri via FTP and regain access to the site. Once I re-installed Sucuri, I was presented with the same fatal error message.

I was hoping to get some assistance in troubleshooting this error please.

  • Hi @thewhite. What version of PHP your website is running on? Thank you for the report!

    Same.

I found a site not loading with WordPress serving only a “Critical Error message”
The site then emailed me with:

Since WordPress 5.2 there is a built-in feature that detects when a plugin or theme causes a fatal error on your site, and notifies you with this automated email.

In this case, WordPress caught an error with one of your plugins, Sucuri Security – Auditing, Malware Scanner and Hardening.

When seeking help with this issue, you may be asked for some of the following information:
    WordPress version 5.3.2
    Current theme: Amherst (version )
Current plugin: Sucuri Security – Auditing, Malware Scanner and Hardening (version 1.8.23)
    PHP version 7.2.27

    Error Details
    =============
An error of type E_RECOVERABLE_ERROR was caused in line 870 of the file /srv/users/serverpilot/apps/REDACTED/public/wp-content/plugins/sucuri-scanner/src/base.lib.php. Error message: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string

I renamed the plugin folder via SFTP to auto-deactivate it. Then when attempting to reactivate it I got:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

Same “critical error” message as the above. I was able to deactivate the Sucuri plugin and the website returned to normal.

    Wordpress version: 5.3.2
    Current theme: storefront
Current plugin: Sucuri Security – Auditing, Malware Scanner and Hardening Version 1.8.23
    PHP version: 7.3.6

Fatal PHP error with 1.8.23 on all my sites too. WordPress 3.7.32, PHP 5.3.29.

[13-Feb-2020 02:51:39 UTC] PHP Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘ in [URL REMOVED]/wp-content/plugins/sucuri-scanner/src/settings-posthack.php on line 167

Version 1.8.24 is out and should fix these issues. ??
