For your information, since this plugin was updated to 1.9.3 several hours ago, a fatal error occurred on one of my websites; nothing but an error message was displayed on both WordPress login page and the actual website.

    See the error message below.
    https://antirollinggyro.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/CriticalError.jpg

I logged in to the web host control panel and deleted the “password-protect-page” folder under “plugins” folder and waited for some seconds. Then the problem was resolved.

I use this plugin on another website, but nothing happened on it, so I suppose it was due to incompatibility with other plugin, but not really sure.

No further action is required since the problem was resolved by uninstalling (deleting) the plugin, but let me know if you need further information. By the way, I will soon uninstall this plugin on the other website just in case.

  • Same thing happened to my website. I deactivated the plugin, bit want to know how te tepair it?

When trying to activate it again I got this message:

“Plugin kon niet worden geactiveerd omdat hij een?fatale fout?veroorzaakt.”

In English it would say: “Plugin cannot be activated because it causes a fata error”

    Anybody can help?

    Some information of the website:

    WordPress versie 6.4.5

Actief thema: Hello Elementor (versie 2.2.2)

Huidige plugin: Password Protect WordPress Lite (versie 1.9.3)

    PHP versie 8.0.28

    Please help

My site suffered exactly the same error. After a lot of time spent debugging I was able to deactivate the plugin via FTP but am unable to delete it or reactivate it. Please, fix this issue ASAP. It’s quite unimaginable that a simple minor plugin update would completely break not only the live site but even the wordpress admin!

    The solutions (at least for now) seem to be;

    1. Wait until the developer releases a new version without error.
    2. Delete the plugin folder: (domain name)/wp-content/plugins/password-protect-page

The process of the latter depends on the web host you use. What web host do you use?

I do not recommend reactivating the plugin, at least until the error was fixed by the developer. Instead, I simply use a different one.

FTI I currently use “Password Protected”. (It says “Warning: This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress.”, but the newest version of WordPress was released today.) I’ve used this one on another website, and It has been working sufficiently so far.

Wait a minute, @ferens1950 . The newest version of WordPress is 6.6.2. Using the newest one is a safer option.

The current one has “Rollbacks for plugin auto-updates” function; if something happens due to an updated plugin, you can use the previous one until the problem is fixed. But unfortunately this function does not work in the case of fatal error like this ??

I have the same issue, followed your advice and deleted the plugin, then uploaded it fresh from the repository. Now I can activate it again, with no issues.
