  • Try:
    – switching to the default theme by renaming your current theme’s folder inside wp-content/themes and adding “-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    – re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder and the wp-config.php & root .htaccess files – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

    – running the upgrade manually via wp-admin/upgrade.php

how can I log-in to do that? I can’t even log into my site to make any changes ??

    Thanks

Please try re-reading my post above. None of the suggestions made require you to login to your WordPress dashboard.

Thank you, I have downloaded the phpMyAdmin (I was clicking previously on my about.php to log into my WP originally: and I am confused (Sorry, I’m not very good with this type of computer stuff),I have also downloaded the upgrade manually and unzipped the files on both downloads, and I have to say now that they are downloaded I am confused and can’t find where to go. For instance I can find the Plugins folder in the phpMyAdmin unzipped folder, and when I unzipped the upgrade folder, and open the “files” in it, they open up on the web in text format. I am so confused as to what I am suppose to do

    I have downloaded the phpMyAdmin

No – you need to use a copy of Phpmyadmin that is already installed on your site’s server. Try asking your hosts for help with this.

Thank you for all your information! I believe it is now fixed. The only I did was I re-set the plug-in’s folder as suggested. Only thing I notice is that I can’t re-name the plug-ins folder back to just plugin’s as the link suggested it has to stay as plugins.hold
    Will this cause any issues?
If I try to re-name it back it does the same thing (gives the fatal error message and a none working site)

    Thanks again!

    Your plugins will not work if the plugins folder is not returned to it’s original name, but to avoid having your site go down again, try this;
    1) Log into admin. go to plugins.
    2) De-activate all of the plugins if they are not already.
    3) Rename your plugins folder back to the original name
    4) Now log back in to admin, and turn one plugin back on
    5) See if your site is still up
    6) Turn the plugin off, turn the next one back on and repeat
    7) When you find the plugin that brings your site down, go back to FTP, go into the plugins folder and rename that one plugin to turn it off.
    8) Log back into the dashboard, and see if there is an updated version of that plugin that is compatible with 3.9. Re-install the plugin. Or if there is no update, you’ll either have to do without that plugin or find a similar one.

Well apparently I wasn’t on 3.9: What I was trying to upgrade to in the first place before doing the WP update, just before all my site problems.
I tried all the above mentioned only to find that none of my plugin’s would work.
This is when I noticed I wasn’t running on 3.9 so I re-installed (upgraded to 3.9) and now everything works even all my plugins.
    Thanks everyone!!
