Fatal error message – please help!

  • Yesterday I was exploring themes in wordpress, liked one of them and clicked “activate” by mistake. When I typed in my URL https://www.messagestolove.com the following message came up: Fatal error: Call to undefined function wp_get_theme() in /nfs/c07/h04/mnt/113298/domains/messagestolove.com/html/wp-content/themes/gommero/functions/theme-options.php on line 9 When I try to log in using my usual login link messagestolove.com/wp-admin/ the same “fatal error” comes up. Someone suggested another admin page to log into and it wouldn’t take my UN or PW. I need very basic instructions.
    I’m at a very basic level with wordpress so if you could speak to me like I’m a little kid it would be appreciated. lol. My web designer set up my site about 2 years ago and I’ve been making small changes ever since, learning as I go along. I don’t even know the version of WP I have installed because I can’t get into wordpress right now to find out, I’m sure I’m due for an upgrade as I haven’t upgraded it in about 2 years.   • Hello Stefanie. The same thing has happened to me today so I hope someone can help us out. I’m also a newbie and pretty clueless with wordpress.

    Using ftp or by logging into your hosted site and using the file manager, rename the theme gommero to gomero-old. That will force wp to open with the default theme.

    Thanks, I understand about renaming the theme gommero to gomero-old but I don’t know how to use ftp or log into my hosted site. I don’t even know what the hosted site is. Would the hosted site be Domainsatcost.com? I’m completely knocked out of WP.com and cannot even log into the dashboard using my UN and PW.

    Yeah I’m sorry too but I’ve no idea how to use FTP. I did get that a lot from the google searches I did but don’t understand how to use it.

    I still have no idea where to go from here. My web designer is in the hospital and when I emailed her she just said “It’s that plugin you activated. Deactivate it and your site will work.” Easier said than done when I cannot log into WP. I need step by step instruction as if talking to a five year old. lol.

    Who is your site hosted with? i.e. who do you get a bill from every month?

    You mentioned WP.com but I think you are self-hosted. Yes login to your account at Domainsatcost.com. Using their file manager change the name of the theme.

    Only if you know the passwords to your account at your host.

    If your designer has email then there is an internet connection. I don’t want to suggest that you push your designer but it can be done from the hospital.

    same thing happens when I attempt to login to my control panel:
    Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 33554432 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 491520 bytes) in /data/32/1/35/71/1687560/user/1820602/htdocs/portraits/wp-admin/menu.php on line 265

    That is not the same problem as the original poster. Please start your own post.

    To access the files directly you need to ftp into your server, which it doesn’t sound like you’re familiar with doing, or gain access to the server administration area, which is what you need your host for. If you don’t know any of the credentials though, they’re not going to give you access.

    I hope your developer recovers, and in the future, you should have a fallback plan so that you can access your own site if she’s unavailable for whatever reason.

    @kmessinger what does that mean? if we all have the same error don’t we need the same or similar answer?
