    Hi there
Since I installs Wordfence, I can not log in anymore. This message appears:
Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 5 seconds exceeded in /nhldata/245/147245/data/web/web01/htdocs/wp-content/plugins/wordfence/vendor/wordfence/wf-waf/src/lib/utils.php on line 492
I live far away in the countryside. I do not have access to Internet so fast that my page started up within 5 seconds. Is there a way to login and change the time of 5 seconds?
Thanks to all the professionals out there for your help

  • I’m not sure who set the maximum execution time to such a low value. By default, the maximum execution time for PHP scripts is set to 30 seconds. If a script runs for longer than that, PHP stops the script and reports an error, which is what you saw. You can control the amount of time PHP allows scripts to run by changing the max_execution_time directive in your php.ini file. You may have to reach out to your hosting provider for help changing this. They should be able to tell you where you can make the change.

Hi, so one week later I got the same problem again. Can I change the maximum execution time, or is the only way to de-install the Wordfence plugin?
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi @moosewood

Yes, this can be changed in php.ini file. That’s the value you need to change to be exact max_execution_time, however, feel free to reach out to your web host asking them to change it for you if you don’t know how to do that.

    Thanks.
