    not sure what broke or when but really weird. I tried to uninstall it and re install but that made no difference.

  • Could be your server has a time limit on Scans.
    Check with your hosting company, on why your plugin is being halted, it should be allowed to run as a cron job, by your for your own protection. Just a guess but that’s what it could be.

    On some sites, if you have the option “Scan images, binary, and other files as if they were executable” this timeout might happen on very large files. In general, that option doesn’t need to be disabled unless you are cleaning a site that is already hacked. (It is not enabled by default on new installations.) If you have backup files stored on the server, or large video or image files, those could be most likely to cause this.
