Fatal Error in line 494 (php 5.6.27)

    Fatal error: Default value for parameters with a class type hint can only be NULL in /home/content/82/9014782/html/wp-content/plugins/simple-lightbox/includes/class.field_base.php on line 494

    WordPress version 5.3
    Current plugin: Simple Lightbox (version 2.8.0)
    PHP version 5.6.27

    I’ve had this problem on all sites hosted on the ‘legacy’ GoDaddy platform which will only let you upgrade to php 5.6.27.

    Unfortunately, I cannot supply a link to the errant sites, as I’ve had to disable the plugin on the sites to restore them.

    How did you update SLB? As noted in the plugin’s headers (and changelog, upgrade notices, documentation, etc.), v2.8.0+ requires PHP 7.2+.

    Your site appears to be running PHP 5.6.27, which is why you are receiving the error message.

    WordPress has built-in functionality to prevent the plugin from being updated when requirements (such as the PHP version) are not met by the site, so details on the method you used to update SLB would be very helpful in evaluating this issue.

    Hi, are you still experiencing this issue with SLB? If so, please provide the requested details and I would be glad to take a closer look.

    Also note that previous versions are available for download from SLB’s page on WordPress’ plugin directory.

    Sorry for the lack of response. I probably have auto-updates turned on in various plugins (I ought to tidy that up) Jetpack, WordFence, and WP Time Capsule. Any of which could be the culprit. It’ll take time to mess with them and work out which is the guilty party, but from your response, that’s where the problem probably lies.

    Thank you for the additional details. I will take a look at those plugins, though there may not be much that can be done if another plugin is forcing updates to incompatible versions.

    I’m closing this ticket as the issue appears to be caused by another plugin, but please post a comment if you have any additional details and I would be glad to reopen this ticket and take another look.
