• (First note: I’m not positive which version of WP we are using, just that we haven’t upgraded recently because our theme isn’t compatible/supported with newest versions. It’s definitely a 3.x but might be older than 3.8.)

I went to my website this morning after having successfully visited and added content yesterday through my admin portal and I am no longer able to get to any pages. When I attempt to go to my homepage, I see this:

Warning: require_once(/home/louhomel/public_html/wp-includes/default-widgets.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/louhomel/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2660

Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/home/louhomel/public_html/wp-includes/default-widgets.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php’) in /home/louhomel/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 2660

I see that same message when I try to log in to my admin portal at https://www.louhomeless.org/wp-admin or when I go to any other pages on my site.

I am not a coder, just a communications/content person who has taught myself to use WP and some very basic HTML, so I am at a loss regarding what to do to restore my site. I do have an IT person who works with our hosting company, so if anyone has experience with this and can tell me what to ask him to do (or what I can do, if anything!), that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you very much!

  • Not sure what to tell you if you do not even know what version of WP you are using. It can be a number of things causing your issue.
Could be PHP version, have you contacted your hosting provider? WordPress is up to version 4.9.1 so 3.x could be your problem too…

Thanks for your response. We have reached out to our hosting provider and hopefully will hear back from them soon. I didn’t realize it could be a number of things depending on the version but that makes sense! What’s strange is that we update our website frequently without issue and to my knowledge nothing changed but now it’s suddenly throwing this error message. So maybe our hosting provider did something on their end; hopefully they can also help solve the issue. Thank you! (It’s also clearly time for us to consider a new theme – we just haven’t updated WP because we really like our theme and hate to have to do a redesign.)

If you take a backup of your site and DB and install it locally on your computer you can test the theme with 4.9.1 and if there are any compatibility issues you could have them addressed by the theme developer or a local WordPress developer.
