I am getting the white screen of death. WordPress has not sent me the email mentioned in their messaging but here is what I get after activating debugging mode:

Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_block_categories() (previously declared in /home/dh_tqgmuh/hopeshelperspetsitting.com/wp-includes/block-editor.php:68) in /home/dh_tqgmuh/hopeshelperspetsitting.com/wp-admin/includes/post.php on line 2184

I went in to the files through ftp and see that it is a duplicate function command but I don’t know how to fix it. I am not a programmer but I have figured out my way around WordPress and the ftp files. Any help is appreciated.

Try manually resetting your plugins (no Dashboard access required). If that resolves the issue, reactivate each one individually until you find the cause.

If that does not resolve the issue, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, navigate to /wp-content/themes/ and rename the directory of your currently active theme. This will force the default theme to activate and hopefully rule-out a theme-specific issue (theme functions can interfere like plugins).

Hi @t-p. Thanks for your reply. I tried these suggestions prior to activating debugging with no change. I just tried renaming the plugins folder and is added the following errors to the original one:

Warning: include_once(/home/dh_tqgmuh/hopeshelperspetsitting.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-super-cache/wp-cache-phase1.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/dh_tqgmuh/hopeshelperspetsitting.com/wp-content/advanced-cache.php on line 22

Warning: include_once(): Failed opening '/home/dh_tqgmuh/hopeshelperspetsitting.com/wp-content/plugins/wp-super-cache/wp-cache-phase1.php' for inclusion (include_path='.:') in /home/dh_tqgmuh/hopeshelperspetsitting.com/wp-content/advanced-cache.php on line 22

Next I renamed the Astra theme with no change to the errors list.

Originally, due to a suggestion from an online source I deleted my default theme to keep things tidy. Through FTP I added twentytwentyone back in the other day. No change of course. Do I have to do anything to the code to activate it or is just having it in the themes folder enough?

This error indicates your wp-super-cache plugin to be the error.

I thought it was just saying that it couldn’t open it because I renamed the plugin folder. What do you suggest as a next step?

do you found a solution for this? I also experience this.

could it be that the bug is in wordpress core?

I solved this by manually updating wordpress. It seems that the last wordpress auto update has failed.

So somehow the last WordPress update seemed to delete Elementor and the Astra theme. Through FTP the folders were still there but the plugins weren’t. My hosting company got me back in to admin and then I installed the plugins again and I seem to be good to go. I have no idea what any of this has to do with the fatal error but my site is back up.

Thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

    Glad its sorted ??

Hi @mharper1217 I’m facing the same error that you had. It was like this “Fatal error: Cannot redeclare get_block_categories() “. And I’m not able to solve it. Could you please help to figure out the solution and you also earlier mention that you figure it out.

Hi @shiranka123. For me the problem was that the Astra theme and Elementor got deleted during an update somehow. When I installed the plugins again the problem was fixed. Are you using either of these and can you check if they were deleted?

I also get the same error and all the above steps I followed but didn’t get any success
