Was notified a site I have is down and is giving the following error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function WP_Filesystem() in [redacted]wp-content/plugins/wp-slimstat/browscap/browser.php on line 97

I tried replacing the file via FTP, that didn’t work. I tried moving this plugin to plugins_bak. That didn’t work. I tried moving all plugins to plugins_bak, that didn’t work.

I’m having to call the web host because I cannot get into this site at all.

No updates were made. It was working last week and suddenly it’s not. I googled the error and I see it occurs to many sites, but the search results didn’t explain how to resolve this.

    Can you help please?

    Hi Leslie,

apologies for the inconvenience. You can manually upgrade to version 4.5.1 by downloading the zip file and overwriting the files on your server with its content. It is really strange though that removing the plugin did not fix the issue. That looks more like a cache issue: a cached version of the page is being served, not the actual dynamic one generated by WP on the fly.

Please feel free to contact us at https://support.wp-slimstat.com if you need further assistance.

    Best,
    Jason

    Hi Jason
I have 4.5.1 uploaded via FTP already.

I discovered the reason it wouldn’t. SlimStat like many plugins writes to .htaccess. By renaming it to .htaccess_bak I was able to get the site to come back up. I re-saved permalinks so it rebuilds .htaccess.

Hopefully that info will help if you get any more support tickets on that error?

I’m going to give this a go again. ??

    Hi Leslie,

thank you for sharing your solution. I’d like to point out, though, that Slimstat DOES NOT write to .htaccess, so it must have been some other plugin. However, it’s good to know that this could be the cause. I’ll keep it in mind when troubleshooting other users’ issues.

    Best,

It may have been security, iThemes Security Pro. Security blocks a lot of actions by design.

for me, the problem was entirely the wp-slimstat plugin. I moved it’s folder in ‘plugins’ out of there and everything works. WP 4.7.1, all my other plugins are updated…

I then installed SlimStat fresh (plugins > install new > search > install) and is seems fine with v4.5.1

    Okay, thank you both.

I removed the SlimStat folder from the server, and the problem was solved. Perfect!

Great, thank you for letting us know!

As noted in another support thread, I ran into the exact same problem as the OP. Our church’s website was taken down by the WP SlimStat plugin with the following error:

“Fatal error: Call to undefined function WP_Filesystem() in /home/WebsiteName/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-slimstat/browscap/browser.php on line 97”

I accessed the site’s files via FTP, renaming the WP Slimstat plugin to wp-slimstat-temp. That allowed the site to fully function again.

I then downloaded the plugin from a link provided in the other thread, unzipped it and uploaded it. The result was the same fatal error. I removed the entire “new” WP Slimstat plugin file. That allowed the site to function again. We do appreciate the features and functionality of the plugin.

I logged into WP Admin for the site and noted an update for WP Slimstat was available (from v4.5 to v4.5.1). I used the auto-update option and the site now appears to be functioning normally.

Apparently the link to the plugin in the other thread was not to the latest version (v4.5.1).

This was very problematic and unexpected. Hopefully the devs will do their best to see that the issue does not arise like this again.

@richsadams and all, we are asking our users to volunteer and be part of a group of beta testers who can catch issues like this one before the plugin is released to the public. Would you like to be one of them?

    Jason

Strange enough that I got this error on only one of my sites. I will try to remove the plugin via ftp.

It worked, by simply removing the slimstat folder, it brought the site back to life.

@shahbazraja003, I’m sorry, how is this related to Slimstat? Also, could I please ask you to start your own thread, if it is?

    Thank you,
    Jason
