• This damned plugin nearly gave me a heart attack. I don’t use many plugins and I have a tiny site, so it’s not a conflict thing. I activated this plugin and immediately got an error that starts off like this…”Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Call to undefined function wp_generate_password() in /www/htdocs/w0151c7d”
It blocked me getting into any part of WordPress, and I couldn’t deactivate the plugin. I was sweating bullets until a reboot and about half an hour had passed and I was suddenly allowed in to deactivate it. And I know I’m not the first with this issue; it’s right there on BoldGrid’s own troubleshooting page. Others have it too. Horrible experience.

    Hi slkx,

My name is Brad, I’m one of the developers on the BoldGrid team. I’m very sorry that the BoldGrid Backup plugin triggered that Fatal error and got you locked out of your site.

After I saw your post this morning, I hopped on to troubleshooting and fixed the problem.

It’s totally understandable if you’ve trashed the BoldGrid Backup plugin and looked elsewhere. If you would be willing to give it another try, or for anyone else reading this, you should see an update available for the plugin to BoldGrid Backup Premium version 1.0.1.

For anyone interested in the details, the bug appears to be in the BoldGrid Backup Premium extension. The plugin is private on github, but I created a gist showing the code change: https://gist.github.com/bwmarkle/76fd47f0b5745de329006ea2ba874884

slkx, if you would be willing to help, I’d like to learn more about the hosting environment you’re running your site on so that I can test the BoldGrid Backup plugin further. If you wanted to reach out, you can send me a message at [email protected]

Again, very sorry that we crashed your site. I couldn’t replicate the problem on my end, but the BoldGrid Backup Premium version 1.0.1 patch should fix it.

    Thanks!
    – Brad
