I recently took over the website, and instead of writing out all of our events, I wanted to use a calendar app. Within seconds of installing the plugin, I received the following error message:

Fatal error: Can’t use method return value in write context in /home/valleysu/public_html/wp-content/plugins/simple-event-calendar/Controllers/Frontend/EventsController.php on line 45

Am completely locked out of the website now.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

    Dear @valleyofthesunrw,

The issue is related to the PHP version you have. There are two ways to fix this issue you have faced:
    1. You need to update the PHP version to 5.5 or higher (after this the fatal error will be gone.)
    2. If you do not want to update the PHP version, you can remove the plugin folder from FTP (wp-content/plugins> simple-event-calendar folder) and install the fix file, which can be found here:

Please, note that the provided version is the bete version of the plugin. The plugin update will be available within a few days.

Let us know if you have any kind of questions.
