willshouse, thanks for tracking that down. I just released 5.0.11 with that fix. And yup, you’ve hit the nail right on the head. How much do you want to bet that ENABLE_ADDITIONAL_PLACEMENT_OPTION doesn’t even do anything anymore?

It’s quite the mess to have inherited and there’s a ton of code in there to make a dev want to cry (it has done that to this dev many a time). The 5.0 versions seems to be doing better than 4.0 (based on support tickets), but I realize that’s not saying much.

Thankfully, we’ve gotten the green light to do a complete rewrite, and that project started last week. There’s no timeline yet on when 6.0 will be out, but I think you will be much happier with it. However, for the time being, investigating and fixing issues in the 5.0 version of this plugin remains a priority.

    Hi gresakg.

As mentioned earlier, one of the bugs we saw in 5.0.9 is that some of the AddThis settings checkboxes get unchecked from time to time, and some other settings are cleared as well. After updating to the 5.0.11 version of the plugin, please review your AddThis plugin’s settings and confirm that they are as you intended them to be.

    Hi Julka,
The release 5.0.11 is still not good enough for us. They gave it a test ride this morning. At least our sliderswork now with version, however, AddThis creates a series of “blank” placeholders for share buttons and position them at undesirable positions after our posts summaries (or short descriptions). More work need to be done.

We had a much better experience with release 5.0.8, before release 5.0.9 began sending this great plugin and its users on unpleasant trips …

    Hi.

Unrelated to the PHP errors and as mentioned previously, we had a significant bug where the plugin’s settings were being reset during upgrades.

This was a problem in three of our more recent releases of the AddThis Sharing Buttons plugin for WordPress (5.0.9, 5.0.10 and 5.0.11). Tests confirm that we’ve resolved this issue in 5.0.12.

This newest version will recover settings from right before an upgraded to any of those three problematic version, and restore them. That means that if you intentionally changed your setting in one of those three version, those changes will be reverted.

We recommend upgrading, reviewing your settings for this plugin, and confirming (yet again) that they are as you intended them to be.

    Hi Julka,

I suppose you guys are almost there in fixing the current issues with this plugin, but the question is, ‘Why does the plugin still inserts the following html codes after every of our post’s excerpts even though we have unchecked the Homepage, Archives,Categories & Excerpts options in the “Sharing Buttons Below Content” settings?’ :

    <div class="entry-content">
                        <p> <a class="addthis_button_preferred_1"></a><br>
                        <a class="addthis_button_preferred_2"></a><br>
                        <a class="addthis_button_preferred_3"></a><br>
                        <a class="addthis_button_preferred_4"></a><br>
                        <a class="addthis_button_compact"></a><br>
                        <a class="addthis_counter addthis_bubble_style"></a><br>

The above pieces of html code do create an undesirable UI and consequently an undesirable UX for our users and that is the current issue we have with your release 5.0.12.

If you guys fix the above, at least we can begin to again use your plugin in our production environment.

Meanwhile, as I mentioned earlier, our theme’s images sliders now work from release 5.0.11 and as it was in the ‘good old days’ of release 5.0.8

The above issue (nceebob’s) is happening on our site as well and this new issue started with 5.0.12. Code automatically gets added to Excerpts, even when everything is set to OFF. In some situations on our blog area, buttons get added twice (one set right above the other) when Below is set ON with Posts Selected, even though we have Excerpts Deselected. We had to Deactivate plugin till this gets worked out. Sadly considering moving to another Sharing Service. We will stay put for a few more days and hopefully you can get things worked out. Good luck.

The plugin works great on posts but stops my site’s homepage from loading.
