The plugin is no longer working on my WP sites. I’m now getting a fatal error. I’m using WP v6.0.2 and the plugin v4.3.1.

When I try and access the settings in the WP control panel — I see this error:

The Font Awesome plugin caught a fatal error.
Your WordPress server failed trying to send a request to the Font Awesome API server.

And if I delete the plugin and try to re-install it — I see this error:

Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

  • Same issue, I’ve fixed temporarily by removing the plugin and installing font awesome manually (functions.php).

Thank you for the reply. But I’m hoping for a more permanent solution.

Same issue for me ! (on WP 6.0.2 and plugin v4.3.1)

Problems can always happen, but complete silence from Font Awesome support (I have a Pro licence) is unacceptable.

Really sorry for the trouble here.

I suspect that this is related to the outage we had recently that affected the Font Awesome API service.

The status page shows when there are outages:
    https://status.fortawesome.com

The specific outage in question is here:
    https://status.fortawesome.com/incidents/f9bfc75lbntw

That issue seemed to pertain to network traffic through specific geographic regions, as the status report describes. There may be some ongoing related issues that are geography-specific and are being investigated.

If this, or something related, is the root cause of the problem you’re seeing, then it will be resolved when the underlying network problems are resolved.

If your site is still experiencing the same problem, then it may be a similar problem in a different region (in which case, it would help to have that geographic information about where your web server is approximately, physically located).

If it seems that it’s not this same geographically-sensitive networking issue, then there may be a range of other possible causes, probably having to do with network issues pertaining to your specific web server or hosting provider. That would require investigating each case individually.

If you’re a Font Awesome Pro subscriber, the way to get support for this is to email hello at fontawesome dot com.
