• Hi, I’m completely non-tech and I need some help here. I updated wordpress and genesis today and now suddenly I get this error message:

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /data/23/3/139/109/3139761/user/3503560/htdocs/WordPress/wp-admin/includes/update.php on line 187

I’ve looked at a few other threads that include this issue but I can’t even get to my dashboard to try to remove plug-ins. This error message comes up right after I’ve logged in.

    Help? Please!

  • You’ll need to connect to your server via FTP and change the name of the plugins folder (located in /wp-content/plugins) to something like plugins-deactivate, which will deactivate all active plugins.

You should then be able to successfully log in.

Check out this thread, it has some useful info.

Apparently my web hosting (with Network Solutions, it’s their WordPress Blog Hosting Package) doesn’t give me FTP access. Is there a way to fix this without the FTP?

Not that I’m aware of. You need to edit some core WordPress files which are inaccessible through the dashboard.

Is it possible for one of their tech support members to help you out?
