• I’ve been using this for a while now and it’s my go-to solution for any site that’s become bloated with images that aren’t being used.

I recently had a client site to migrate from wordpress.com to www.remarpro.com. Unaware of the issues of uploading full-size image files, she had accumulated a massive uploads folder with over 600 files, most of which were not being used. All image files were huge; several were around 4-6MB each. She had not used any dimension limiting controls at all.

Using Media Cleaner, I was able to eliminate all the bloat – safely (and automatically) stash the deleted files in a temporary trash folder, test the site, then FTP it to its new host – and cut the site weight by around 80%.

This is the best plugin I’ve come across for this kind of filtering and deletion of unneeded image files. The developer is also really supportive and responds positively to any email queries or requests.

After trialling the free version of Media Cleaner, I opted for the Pro version. The small investment is well worth it in time saved.

The only tiny thing I would add is that it took me a while to discover this plugin because I didn’t immediately associate the name with the function – yes, it’s a media cleaner, but I was using keywords like: remove unwanted images and delete unused images, which to my mind were more descriptive.

So if you’re looking for a plugin you can use to turn an overweight image library full of unused images into a streamlined, nimble version that only contains the images and size variants your setup needs, look no further.
