Fantastic utility for FREE peace of mind. Easy to use.

The basic features that most users want comes with the free version of this plugin, including scheduled backups, choice of whether to back up files, database, or both, back up to server, email, or Dropbox for free (and add-ons to use OneDrive, Copy.com etc. are $15 as of this writing). Premium features are great to have, but for a basic site or blog the free version is fantastic.
It will schedule backups of both files and database/s for you. Tip: Don’t leave “0” in the box where it asks you how many backups to keep if you have limited server space, because “0” will keep ALL backups. Instead, choose daily backups of both files and database – yes, it gives you the choice – and enter, say, 2. This way your most recent backup is never more than 2 days old. It will delete the oldest backup, thereby saving you server or Dropbox space.
Also, if you want to store on Dropbox, the free version of this plugin will upload the backup .zip files to Dropbox for you, which offers free storage for up to 2GB.
So, for complete peace of mind for free, download this plugin, read the settings tab contents carefully and choose appropriately. Get a Dropbox account if you don’t have one already, and if you don’t want the backup files clogging up bandwidth as they download to your own computer every day then just don’t install the Dropbox software on your own machine. This way you have scheduled backups of database/s and files to a remote server.
Couldn’t ask for more in a free plugin. Except perhaps the ability to both back up to Dropbox *and* local server…I mean, what happens if Dropbox heads south but your site server doesn’t? Hm, maybe you should allow Dropbox to sync to your desktop machine after all ??
