Fancybox with Download Monitor

Hi,
In would like to use Download Monitor to popup PDF. Download monitor allows to
have permanent link to file post where only latest version of the file will be downloaded. The link just goes to mysite.com/file-container/ – so does not have .pdf at the end.
using Fancybox and pressing the link its just opens the pdf in the new window.
so, is there any way to make it open in modal?
