    Hello WordFence,

I upgraded to WordPress 5.6, which as you know came with the new theme TwentyTwentyOne.

All my subsequent WordFence scans report the following 2021 files as “Medium” risk.

    Modified theme file: wp-content/themes/twentytwentyone/footer.php
    Modified theme file: wp-content/themes/twentytwentyone/image.php
    Modified theme file: wp-content/themes/twentytwentyone/template-parts/content/content.php
    Modified theme file: wp-content/themes/twentytwentyone/template-parts/content/content-single.php

I suspect they are just false positives.

    • Can they be ignored?
    • Why are they being flagged?
    • Has anyone else reported this issue to you?
    • If there isn’t an issue here then when will WordFence stop reporting them?

    Thanks in advance.

  • I have the same query @lordliverpool. When I checked the differences, there were slight changes. I spoke to my web developer who told me to ignore them since I am not using that theme but to get a clarification too.

Are these false positives for minor changes that might have been made to the theme? Also does it affect us if we’re not using the theme?

    Thanks.

Hello @lordliverpool and thanks for reaching out to us!

That is just a false positive that has been reported to us. To fix this issue, reinstall the new twenty twenty one theme. The scan results will then disappear.

@vshukla you can try the same thing.

Let me know if this helps!

    Thanks!

@wfadam as of 12/22 at 12:00 pm pacific, reinstalling Twenty Twenty One does not fix this issue. The changes to the files are even more minor than they were before, but Wordfence is still flagging them as modified. Here’s what “view differences” is showing:

    Original version: * @since 1.0.0
    Modified version: * @since Twenty Twenty-One 1.0

The exact line number varies but it’s always near the top.

This is very minor and clearly not going to cause problems, except that WF will keep flagging these files and sending alerts about them, but I imagine people are going to keep posting about it until the issue gets fixed.

    @wfadam Thanks for replying.

Sorry for my slow reply. I never got notified of follow-up replied from www.remarpro.com!?!

Anyway, this seems to have cleared itself up as the latest WordFence scans of all my sites are no longer reporting TwentyTwentyOne as being an issue anymore.

So thanks very much or your help.
