Hi, I am working on a site that has been having a few more false positives than they’d like recently, and one of the most recent is ‘Spam Word: Ad in pwd’ . This looks to me like there was something in the password found to be spam? Is it usual to check a password for spam words? Is there a way to change the settings for password checks? The user is legitimate and has reached out to gain access from us. I would mainly like to know what would cause it and how we could prevent it as a false positive in the future. Thank you!

  • Hi @sorakha,

My initial instinct would be to say that it’s much too aggressive to check passwords for spam words, but then again, after careful thought, it may also provide a unique layer to stop the bad guys. Basically, ALL fields are checked, is how the plugin currently operates.

It’s all tough though; it’s subjective; and it requires balancing.

Right now, it seems to be extremely rare that this causes issues for people, so I would either:

    1. Simply add the person the to Allow List

    or

    2. Remove “Ad” from the blocked spam words

    for a quick fix.

    Thanks
