    Hi everyone,
I’m using the free Yoast plugin in my WordPress website and I have tried the rewrite & republish feature. Before publishing the duplicate version I changed my mind and decided to stay with the original page version, so I deleted (permanently) the duplicate page.

Since then I get a notification in the upper bar each time I edit the page as follows:
“A duplicate of this post was made. Please note that any changes you make to this post will be replaced when the duplicated version is republished.”

My question for you is why I still get this notification and how I turn it off?
I already deleted the duplicated version and would like to stay with the original page..

Please help me solve this issue
    Thanks in advance,`

    Hey @shapress

We tested this out with v4.1.2 of Yoast Duplicate Post. We clicked on the ‘Rewrite & Republish’ feature on an already previously published post. It then created a new draft which was the ‘Draft,?Rewrite & Republish of Post X’ and then we trashed the draft. We then went to the original post and it had a notification of “You can only make one Rewrite & Republish duplicate at a time, and a duplicate of this post already exists in the trash. Permanently delete it if you want to make a new duplicate.”

So we then permanently deleted the draft in the ‘trash’ filter of the posts overview page, and then when we went back to the original post, it didn’t show any sort of notification anymore, so we were unable to reproduce it on our end.

We understand it is still showing this notification “A duplicate of this post was made. Please note that any changes you make to this post will be replaced when the duplicated version is republished.” for you, even though you’ve already permanently deleted the draft, right?

Could you try clearing all of your caches (browser, plugin, server, CDN, etc.) and see if this resolves the issue?

    Right..
I cleared all of my catch on both the site and the browser and the issue persists..
I’ve tried also to reinstall the Yoast Duplicate plugin as well (same version here v4.1.2) and I still see the notification in that page..

    What should I do then?
Is it ok if I just ignore the issue or disable the yoast duplicate plugin?
(until you will update to newer version)

    Thanks again,

    Hi @shapress

While it shouldn’t really be an issue, that’s certainly strange. If you try to make a change or two to the original page and click on the ‘update’ button, does the notification still appear?

Would it also be possible for you to try and perform a conflict check with a default WP theme (such as TwentyTwenty) and only the Yoast Duplicate Post plugin activated and see if the notification still occurs?

Often, we see problems occur in combination with another plugin or theme. The fastest way to rule out any conflict, is to deactivate all non-Yoast plugins and switch to a standard theme like Twenty Twenty.

Please test this on your development or staging site, if you have one. If not, we recommend using the Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin. This plugin has a troubleshooting mode, which does not affect normal visitors to your site.

If you’re unfamiliar with checking for conflicts, we’d like to point you to a step-by-step guide that will walk you through the process: How to check for plugin conflicts

Ok I’ve followed the procedure you told me (by using the health check & troubleshooting plugin) went back to the default theme (Twenty Twenty) and enabled only the Yoast duplicate plugin. This strange notification was still on that page.. So, I guess it’s not a conflict between plugins or themes..
In the guide you mentioned it’s said that maybe the problem is at the WordPress setup or server level.. which I don’t know that that means. What should I do then?
    Thanks again,

    Hi @shapress

Just to clarify, did you already check the ‘trash’ filter from the pages overview section and click on ‘delete permanently’ for the rewritten draft?

If so, and you’ve already performed a conflict check, then we can rule out that it is a conflict with another plugin or theme on your website. We’d need to investigate further on your website as it could indeed be something on the WordPress setup or server level, but we are unable to do so over these public forums. Perhaps there’s another set of cache that still needs clearing.

    (@shapress)

Yes, I did, and I cleared the cash at both the site level and page level (using the WP-Optimize plugin). That leads me to wonder that maybe it is this plugin that caused the bug in the first place – after I run an optimization and the page was deleted permanently automatically from the trash can (as part of the optimization session)?
Either way, maybe I just need to make a new copy of that page and delete the current page (my site is not live yet. I’m still with the “discourage search engines” option ticked)?

    Hi,

Since we were unable to reproduce the issue on our end, it might likely be something on your local setup that is causing the notification to still appear. We’d need to investigate further but we are unable to do so over these public forums.

We would recommend just creating a new ‘rewrite & republish’ draft of the current page and then after making the changes, clicking on ‘republish’ and see if that resolves that particular notification.

    (@shapress)

I see. Unfortunately, the option to rewrite & republish that page doesn’t exist anymore near the pages menu and from within the page editor..
There is only an option to make a draft in the editor.
Anyways, I think what I would try to do is manually publishing this page as a new post since the robots are blocked and I can still make changes like this.
If you see a better option, I would be happy to know.
    Thanks

**When I mentioned “near the pages menu” I meant only the rewrite & republish near that particular page. I do see that option near the other pages and posts.

    Hi,

The ‘rewrite & republish’ function should only show up for published posts. If it is in a draft state, then it won’t appear.

We’re not sure what to advise at this point as it definitely would require further investigation on your local set-up, but maybe some other users on these forums can help provide suggestions or assistance, so we’ll leave this thread open for a time.

Sorry that we couldn’t be of more help here. We hope you’ll still be able to use the functions in Yoast Duplicate Post for your other posts and pages.
